OT Rant

We don’t have a problem with OT. We’ve gotten more lately, but the weather is getting nice so it’s expected. Hubby always checks to make sure we don’t have anything big planned before he takes it. That is awesome that he checks, I hear some guys don’t and I can’t imagine not getting the courtesy.

But my bitch is those that put in for OT and then are late getting back. Hubby took a 10 hour shift, cool, he’d be home around 6. I know he could get a call and be there still, yada-yada, whatever, that is understandable. But the shift he is covering just called and they are still 2-3 hours out. Mind you, the call came an hour after he was supposed to get off.

I’m PISSED. The place they were going is at least 5 hours away on a good day, with the right person driving. AT LEAST 5 hours. So that is 10 hours of driving alone, plus then whatever time for the memorial they were at. RU F’IN (kept it PG for ya) KIDDING ME? You are looking at 15 hours of time there if you plan to eat and pee as well in there somewhere. So that means that you should have your whole shift covered. Just call it a wash and get it covered.

Now my hubby MAY be home around 9 or 10pm. Umm, that’s not cool. If it has been a long day, then there are many days they are in bed at the stations at that time.

Ok, I do feel a little bad. I guess they did leave last night and it’s for a memorial of some kind. But it is still far away, so if it was an afternoon thing then they should know they wouldn’t make it.

I would be better with this if it wasn’t the norm. Scheduling is always an issue. There needs to be more control on the scheduling. They get a ton of vacation and sick leave, USE IT and don’t use just parts of it. Take a whole day if needed. This one is not the same case as I think they are representing the department so they’ve been on OT/shift since last night. But it’s just the last straw lately. Plus I can’t go into detail on how last minute this all was and barely got covered anyway. So it’s been a scheduling stupidity from the beginning.

I’m a big one on hating stupidity and any form of incompetence or waste. I just texted hubby to send our buddy over so I could kick their ass for no reason. That would make me feel much better lol I’m the Irish in the family ;) It’s no wonder why I get along with all the guys. But those stories are for another day of why I get to go to the bars even though I’m a wife. ROFLMAO

Long week, made longer

Yeah, he called and asked if the OT was ok to take and I agreed. We don’t get a lot of 24 OT and if he is ok with working a 72 hour shift, then that is his call.

But then this week has gone from bad to worse with drama and just busy. Of course I hadn’t written on the calendar that it is our relay for life walk tomorrow night when he’s taking the OT and I hadn’t written down that it was cheer tryouts for my daughter. Then my work week was busy, we had a ton of errands in between and I was just damned cranky. It’s only Thursday and I’m just pissed off and cranky and waiting impatiently for his 72 to be over. Umm, it hasn’t been the normal 24 yet! lol

Top it off with the fire banquet that they are working so none of the wives seem to be going. Well I wasn’t going to go either, but it’s been such a crappy week and I’d like to see him as soon as I can. Now I’m scrambling to grab one of the girlfriends and see if she’ll go. I want someone to sit with in case they get called out. LOL

Well now I just got notified by my Mom that my Grandma is in the hospital right now. Breathing issues. She’s very sick with cancer and other ailments. So we’ll see what Dad has to say when he calls my Mom. I hope he is doing ok at the hospital waiting around to hear info. I don’t understand why my Mom doesn’t feel it’s her responsibility to go and sit with him. Goodness, my hubby just asked if I was going to need him to come home so I could go sit with my Dad while he hears news. My Mom disappoints me in her lack of support and emotion. See how this week just gets better every minute? GOOD GRIEF!

Happy Mother’s Day

Just a big wish for a wonderful Mother’s Day to all my fellow Firefighter Wives out there. I hope he didn’t have to work today and is helping the kids spoil you rotten.

I bought myself some killer Tbones for the grill and lobster tails. Also a wonderful bottle of wine. I’m set for some serious grillin’!

Call Yesterday

We had what sounded like a monster call yesterday. Not having a scanner drives me crazy and I’m tired of everyone (my cop and fire friends) telling me I do NOT want one. YES, I DO! I’m nosy. I am seriously NOT worried about him going on calls. They are smart, they are safe, I’m just too damn nosy and it takes forever to find out what’s going on.

This time it didn’t take long. My friend in the next department over (volunteer) was called for mutual aid, but sent home when they got on scene. So he texted me asap asking if hubby was working today and that a helicopter crash had happened about 10 blocks away from our house.

I hadn’t heard that many sirens in years. Hmm, maybe since the last “experimental” plane went down. Thankfully these two walked away with just minor injuries, definitely not the norm for this strip. If you look at the video on our Local Radio Station’s website, you’ll be amazed that it was only minor injuries. It’s just a really quick video that someone snagged by pure luck at the last second before impact.

Hubby wasn’t actually called out to it which is amazing since it sounded like every emergency vehicle within 20 miles was called out and every sheriff’s deputy. lol I knew it wasn’t far away because I’ve gotten pretty good and telling where they turn off when it’s the stations close to me. Hubby was volunteer for 8 years so I’d know the address and the call before he’d leave the house.

That’s another reason why it was hard for me not to know what’s going on anymore. Previously I knew everything even before he did. If he was outside, I’d come running out with his pager telling him what the call was and getting him out of the driveway. I was used to sending him off to the fire or the car wreck and many, other major calls. Then he got hired on and I miss out on all the calls. HECK he used to get home from work and I’d fill him in on the calls he’d missed during the day while working. The pagers used to have the chatting on there as well if he forgot to switch the station before going to work. lol

So Christmas list next year, scanner PLEASE.

Again, if you want to look at the real quick video of the call he DIDN’T go on. Which is amazing because it was a full moon and the calls were out of this world yesterday. Then go check out the helicopter wreck in Buckley.
