We had what sounded like a monster call yesterday. Not having a scanner drives me crazy and I’m tired of everyone (my cop and fire friends) telling me I do NOT want one. YES, I DO! I’m nosy. I am seriously NOT worried about him going on calls. They are smart, they are safe, I’m just too damn nosy and it takes forever to find out what’s going on.
This time it didn’t take long. My friend in the next department over (volunteer) was called for mutual aid, but sent home when they got on scene. So he texted me asap asking if hubby was working today and that a helicopter crash had happened about 10 blocks away from our house.
I hadn’t heard that many sirens in years. Hmm, maybe since the last “experimental” plane went down. Thankfully these two walked away with just minor injuries, definitely not the norm for this strip. If you look at the video on our Local Radio Station’s website, you’ll be amazed that it was only minor injuries. It’s just a really quick video that someone snagged by pure luck at the last second before impact.
Hubby wasn’t actually called out to it which is amazing since it sounded like every emergency vehicle within 20 miles was called out and every sheriff’s deputy. lol I knew it wasn’t far away because I’ve gotten pretty good and telling where they turn off when it’s the stations close to me. Hubby was volunteer for 8 years so I’d know the address and the call before he’d leave the house.
That’s another reason why it was hard for me not to know what’s going on anymore. Previously I knew everything even before he did. If he was outside, I’d come running out with his pager telling him what the call was and getting him out of the driveway. I was used to sending him off to the fire or the car wreck and many, other major calls. Then he got hired on and I miss out on all the calls. HECK he used to get home from work and I’d fill him in on the calls he’d missed during the day while working. The pagers used to have the chatting on there as well if he forgot to switch the station before going to work. lol
So Christmas list next year, scanner PLEASE.
Again, if you want to look at the real quick video of the call he DIDN’T go on. Which is amazing because it was a full moon and the calls were out of this world yesterday. Then go check out the helicopter wreck in Buckley.
