This weekend marks exactly one year since I took over running this website and posted my introductory post here. Since then we’ve grown by over 10,000 fans on our Facebook page and 1200 members in our Private Wives group. Most importantly, I’ve learned a lot of life lessons from our Fire Wife community. Here’s just a few…. 1. There are many people in this world who are hurting and seeking and looking for inspiration and encouragement to get through everyday. And it is so easy to serve them with daily encouraging words And we all need a little challenge and motivation in our life to keep growing. #firestrong is our mantra around here. It means a lot. A whole lot. It took almost a whole year to capture all its meaning and I’m certain we aren’t done yet. But you can read more about it here. 2. There is ALWAYS another Fire Wife who has already experienced this challenge I’m facing right now. There is never a post that goes unanswered in our Private Wives Group. And even when there are different opinions, the fire wives truly know how to share a strong word in a healthy manner. That is so rare for such a large group of women that I am just in wonder and awe at that instant sisterhood. I don’t have any sisters. Now I feel like I have thousands. 3. Online friendships are just not enough when there is truly a sisterhood. Fire Wives want to ...

The post 10 Things I Learned in One Year as a Fire Wife Blogger appeared first on Firefighter Wife.

As administrator of this site, I’m always on the lookout for great resources to help fire wives. And you all may realize I try to be a pretty healthy and active person too. So when I saw this, I thought hmmmmm….these guys are onto something! Yes we have Fit Fire Wife, and yes we are launching Fire Up Your Love Life. But this free video series is going to bring us some expertise in this area. It’s about natural ways to “get your sexyback”. I know we’ve talked about it here. Our hormones shift and we don’t always feel like we got out groove on. So I encourage you to check out this free video summit. And be ready to share your thoughts in our Fire Up Your Love Life group that is coming soon. Click this link for details http://bit.ly/10wtS3U Can sex-related health challenges be solved through natural means? For women — issues like PMS, frequent UTIs, yeast infections, an inability to reach climax, or even a non-existent libido that’s more than likely causing relationship problems. For men — low testosterone, high estrogen, E.D., a dwindling sex drive, or simply not feeling like the man you once were. Absolutely! And that’s why my friend Sean Croxton put together the upcoming SexyBack Summit to show you EXACTLY how to get your sexy back…naturally. Plus, it’s totally FREE for you to attend! To get you ready for the summit, Sean recorded a series of video interviews with his sexpert presenters.

There are some of our mom’s who deserve more than a day a year in their honor. These moms have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Here are the three winners of our Facebook Page Fire Strong Mom contest. Each of these mom’s will be receiving a Fire Strong Bracelet or T-Shirt. Molly B. My parents married when my mom was eighteen. They struggled with infertility for twelve years before they conceived and had me and my two younger siblings. My mom sacrificed her career to come home and be a mom and housewife, and she home schooled us from K-12th. I have always admired her strength and sacrifice for us, but it wasn’t until my dad was diagnosed with cancer that I truly saw her strength. It was only 46 days from his diagnosis that he passed away. Stunned, my siblings and I (ages 16, 17, 21) didn’t know what to do. She was our strength as we watched her step into the workforce for the first time in twenty years. She had never even pumped her own gas before! She supported us all through college, and continues to be our rock. Last Two years ago, she met and married a wonderful man. Last September, we lost him in a tragic car accident. Once again, I’ve seen her inner strength and beauty surpass her grief. She is my inspiration, and I hope my girls see even just an ounce of her grace and strength in me one ...

The post Fire Strong Moms appeared first on Firefighter Wife.

I am so excited to announce a new feature on FirefighterWife.com entitled “Fire Up Your Love Life” as we welcome a new partner, Heather Isaacs. Heather is one of our administrators in the Private Wives Group and one of my biggest personal cheerleaders when life gets tough keeping this site and community all together. She is *madly* in love with her husband all while holding down a full time corporate job and juggling 5 kids between the two of them. Can you say superwoman? As our community has grown, I’ve been privileged to share with Heather behind the scenes our passion for improving our marriages. And this includes making love to your husbands ladies. Regularly and enjoyably. She and I both realized that there is a lack of understanding, desire and even just a forum to discuss this topic when you have a question or concern. So Heather has stepped up to help us out in this area as she has signed on as a consultant for Pure Romance and will be a guest writer and community coordinator helping us “Fire Up Your Love Life.” This does not mean getting all freaky and kinky in ways that make you blush (although you can if you’re game for that.) This is about tasteful and helpful products and information to make your love life as enjoyable as it’s meant to be. Stay tuned for details for our new private area where you can have confidential, discrete and classy conversation about ...

The post Fire Up Your Love Life appeared first on Firefighter Wife.

I’ve missed the buzz of the excitement just post FDIC but honestly I was reeling from all the wonderful contacts and follow ups after the show. If I had to sum it up in a couple short words, it would be No Glitter. All Heart. What’s up with the glitter? You may remember this cartoon posted the week or so before FDIC and lots of apprehensive and anxious fire wives who’s hubbies were leaving them for a week to great big land of the unknown rumored to be occupied by scantily clad firefighter seeking women with no respect for the wedding ring. I’ll admit. 5-10 years ago I was totally that wife. He left me for a week with 3 children not yet old enough to head off to school, using our vacation time, spending money out of our own pocket for training that he just couldn’t pass up. Then he’d be unreachable the whole time he was there. Have like 10 minutes to call me after a quick shower before heading out to a late “steak dinner with the guys”. Uh huh. My young immature self had trouble buying all of that. But the truth is this. A big part of FDIC is the hands on training the guys can receive. So truthfully my husband would be out doing some structural collapse class all day, working himself to exhaustion without stopping and then rushing off to a dinner with instructors he was dying to rub elbows with and learn ...

The post No Glitter, All Heart: A Firefighter Wife’s View of FDIC appeared first on Firefighter Wife.

I’m excited to welcome a special guest blogger, fire wife Kim Larsen, who has a great personal story about her fitness journey in regards to hormones. Our bodies are mass chemistry experiments and different substances can get out of whack for a variety of reasons. So we encourage you to read this and investigate what’s going on with your body. We are all meant to feel vibrant and alive, not exhausted and spent. Hope this gives you the spark to investigate what’s going on in your body. Lori Mercer @wifeonfire It’s not gross. It’s not taboo. And it does NOT mean you are getting old! Hormones. Yuck. Nobody likes to talk about them. We think of hormones as an excuse for our rotten behavior towards our husbands, our mood swings, our teary eyes. But they are OOOHHHHH so much more than that. Hormones play are role in almost everything that we do. Sleep, work, exercise, relationships, sex. We’d never make it a day with out our hormones. But did you know that, as early as in your twenties, women begin to loose their hormones? Check out these symptoms: **FATIGUE- ie: A lack of energy; A hard time getting out of bed; late afternoon “crash”; want to go to bed at 7:45-8:00pm; cant stray awake through the 7:00pm rerun of Seinfeld. **DECREASED SEX DRIVE- ie: Low libido, lack of romantic interest or fantasy, no flirtatious behavior; sometimes to the point of the thought makes you sick! **DECREASE IN MENTAL CLARITY- ie: inability to quickly solve ...

The post Assist Your Fit Fire Wife Goals with a Hormone Check appeared first on Firefighter Wife.

Here at FirefigterWife.com we have the Fire Wife Sisterhood to encourage and support each other through the unique challenges of being married to a firefighter. But sometimes those challenges require professional support that even your local department is unable to provide through their programs. Line of Duty Death, those awful calls involving loss of a child or inability to help someone in need. Even just the stress of dealing with sleep interruption or the day to day battles with depression and anxiety that so many of us face in a season of our life but are exasperated by the stresses of a first responders job. Our partner Safe Call Now is there for exactly these moments for your firefighter to make an anonymous call to a support line for help. They will talk to your firefighter 24/7 and also get you connected with the best organizations for professional support in your area For friendship and encouragement along the way, join the Fire Wife Sisterhood. We aren’t professional counselors but we all know what it’s like to be married to a firefighter. It’s a sisterhood you automatically belong to when you married him and we are a community here to support you, laugh with you and keep you Fire Strong.

The post Help for Handling a Crisis appeared first on Firefighter Wife.
