Well yes I’m going to gush before I even go into the interview I did with the ladies. I was excited to find Firefighter’s Wives last month and to see the fundraising was for firefighters that have career ending issues that are non-job related. I loved this to begin with, but then to find out that they are quite local was amazing. They are probably 2 hours from me and they just started in August. I’m in, how can I help
So you may see a lot of stuff posted about their fundraising. If you have other fundraising efforts, please contact me I’d love to post and see if I can help.
But how I can help already, is obvious. Here’s more info on the women and the site.
So who is behind Firefighter’s Wives?
Firefighters’ Wives was founded by two wives of Marysville Fire District Firefighters in Marysville, WA. We originally just wanted to create shirts for ourselves because there just aren’t a lot of Firefighter’s Wife items out there. We wanted a brand that could represent the females in Firefighter’s life everywhere! Then a Firefighter in our husband’s district was diagnosed with ALS and our idea grew into something bigger. We realized that once a Firefighter’s wife, forever a Firefighter’s wife and we wanted take a percentage of all sales and donate it to the wife and or family of a Firefighter who has become ill or injured and is no longer able to be an active Firefighter.
Do your husbands work together?
Ha! This question makes us laugh because our husbands have a love-hate relationship! They have been on the same shift for the past 6 years and they are the best of friends, but pick on each other to no end! They are on the ladder truck together and have a pretty good time! We did not know each other, but of course had heard stories about each other! We just really became friends in May when we went to a few fire department functions together and started talking about our passion to create something that gives back to the wives! Since May we have become great friends and now business partners!
How did the site start?
We started with all of our business ideas in late June and the site went live with a few items on it in August. We live 30 minutes apart from each other so we usually do everything via text message and emails. We kind of threw the site together and have been building on it ever since. What is your vision and goal with the site?
We really want to have a section dedicated to Firefighters’ Wives in business. Maybe each week focus on a Firefighter’s Wife who owns their own business and do a little story on them with a link to their website! We currently use Facebook a lot to promote our site and that is where most of our traffic comes from!
Eventually we would like to have a non-profit branch to our business. It is hard to get non-profit status, so right now we are just focusing on providing fun merchandise and donating to families in need. We are looking to sell our merchandise locally as well as have a booth at the State Fire Conventions across the country and eventually attend the IAFF Convention! We will start locally by hopefully attending the Washington State Fire Convention next year in Walla Walla.
What products do you currently carry?
We started with strictly Made In The USA apparel and we use a union printer, but the company we were using for our apparel just filed bankruptcy so we are forced to carry import items, but we love working with our union printer, Lasting Impressions! They are the printer of choice for most of the fire departments in Washington State!
We carry all types of t-shirts(v-neck, crew neck, long sleeve, tanks, tie dye & camo) we also have youth apparel, baby onesies and hooded sweatshirts. We carry novelty items such as aprons, stickers, window clings, rubber bracelets and 20oz cold cup tumblers! The tumblers are our favorite item! We are open to any comments about the merchandise we carry and we love hearing suggestions for more items!! We want the brand to represent us, the females in a Firefighter’s life, so it’s important that women are able to relate to the products and the brand.
Do you have a current fundraiser? Any local events coming up?
Currently there is a fundraising even that will be taking place in Smokey Point at the Boston’s Restaurant all day on October 9th. This fundraiser is supporting the Firefighter from Marysville who was diagnosed with ALS. It will be a great event and everyone should come eat at Boston’s that day even if you aren’t related to the fire industry!
Firefighters’ Wives has also partnered with Scentsy and we will be holding a launch party and fundraiser on October 18th, 5:30pm-8pm. We will have appetizers, desserts and drinks along with samples of all our products to view and order and of course the Scentsy consultant will be there! Scentsy is a perfect fit because they are a “Firefighter Approved” product! 100% of all the commission the consultant makes that night from our party will be donated to a wife/family in need! If you are in the area and would like to attend the party you can email us at info@firefighterswives.net. If you would like to order Scentsy products from our party you can visit the link to our party at https://nicolepaz.scentsy.us/Buy?partyId=3211854
Scentsy delivers to anywhere in the country so you don’t have to be local to purchase something from our fundraiser!
I’m excited to find these ladies and their site. Not only are they something I can truly feel great about helping, but they are local and I’m looking forward to meeting them. I’ll be joining their fundraising event on the 18th and believe me, pics will happen
I have at least one other wife making the drive up with me, but I’m looking to fill my suburban. 6 more seats are open for a quick road trip!
They had some new products, the pink tumbers, go live today and I already have my order in. Next week we will have a giveaway of a tumbler and some other products. I ordered some extra items to give away! This is just the start of some great giveaways planned!
