Kelly contacted me for some places for more support. Her husband starts work today! YEAH, CONGRATS! What an exciting and scary time. The adjustment is the hard part. But Kelly understands that this is a whole family change and just by asking for places for support I know she’ll be moving in the right direction.
There is firewives.comforums for wives and girlfriends if you’re looking for that kind of chatting.
Then blogs I suggest are:
Stop, Drop and Blog is a must stop for further advice on how another couple are making this craziness work. She has younger kids so she has a different perspective. I didn’t start my blog until my kids were a little older so unless I’m asked specific questions I tend to forget how I did deal with certain things. She and I tend to have a similar outlook on things and I believe she may have been one of the first fire wife blogs I found to follow. Her pictures are wonderful and she’s back to work as well. I’m sure you can ask her questions about dealing with it all and she will write back.
Hydrant Girl has a unique perspective as she’s married to a firefighter and we’ve followed as she’s become fire/medic herself. Well she was fire already, but she just did a ton of training to become medic. Traveling a ton, training to become a medic. She’s been rocking it and still updating her blog as well. Not an easy task.
Fire Wife Katie is another blogger I like to follow. She too has younger kids so I know you will get some great ideas from her. Not to mention she’s one talented “crafter”. I wish she lived closer, I’d just hire her to come in and decorate! I get much more than firelife commiseration from her blog. I get inspiration to actually do those many crafts I have lined up in my craft room.
A Firefighter’s Wife has all ages of children. They have been together for a while and she brings her faith to her blog as well. If you aren’t into religion, please don’t think you won’t get anything from her blog. I’m not religious and I love visiting her blog and can really appreciate how much their faith plays a part in their lives. She’s not preachy. It’s just the way they live their life and it’s working wonderfully for them. She homeschools, is crafty and she’s surrounded herself with really wonderful people locally that help. That is such a key.
Wow, I know a lot about some of you don’t I? Is this creepy? lmbo
Keep me updated Kelly and please feel free to contact me with any questions. I don’t mind keeping questions anonymous as well. That goes for everyone else as well. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you’d like to throw out to fire wives. You’ll usually get a few different perspectives to mull over.
