We can’t count on holidays off, or weekends, or even what time shift will end. But there are so many times I’m thankful for how well this crazy schedule works for us.
Our daughter has been wrestling this year and unfortunately hubby has had to miss at least half the meets and tournaments because of work. I’m sure there have been days I’ve driven him crazy with a million texts as I sit alone at a tournament. I know he really wanted to be there too. For those that don’t know, with travel time, these tournaments are 10-14 hour days for me and mostly leaning towards 14. I had no idea what we were getting into when my daughter told us a week before practice started lol
Thinking back too our construction job days and that schedule, he probably wouldn’t have made many of the events at all. Commute would have gotten him home too late to see her weekday meets and he generally worked 6 days a week so tournaments would have been out. Forget taking a day off back then, there was no vacation or sick pay. Never has a day gone by that I miss those days, even at the beginning when we struggled with the income difference.
I’m truly thankful for this crazy schedule because it allowed us to get out of town as a family for a big tournament. No worry about needing a day off because it hit on a four day.
He barely had any sleep for 5 days so he wasn’t much of a road trip companion on the way there, but I’ll forgive him because at least he was awake and drove. I’m sure I annoyed him enough with my chatter to keep him wide awake. Some of us just have our gifts lol
Three days of very little responsibility and I’m now ready to rock out the work week. We got to meet quite a few of the other parents (boys team) and went out with them one night as well. Definitely nice to unwind after a long tournament day with other parents in the same boat.
Yes, there are many times that his schedule keeps us from doing things as a family. But the times he’s available make up for every day we miss him.

Hey! I totally understand the missed appointments and dates and stuff. But when it does work, it usually works really well. Glad you got to be away!
I so know what you go through our daughter is in batons and has parades and recitels and the fair and this year maybe a compation or two her teacher is thinking about it and hubby misses quite a bit which sucks so I think we are going to envest in a video camera so when he can go I can tape these things and he can watch them when he’s home and wont miss them any more I take tons of picture but its just not the same. Maybe you could get a vedio camera and do the same Val then the wont miss so much either:) Just a thought…
Video camera is on the list. Daughter wants to be able to see her matches as well. But I have no idea what to get. It has to be quite water resistant as son starts football here in a couple of months. It’s Washington so if it’s not raining then something is wrong lol
Any suggests? Needs to be easy to use, have a decent amount of memory, easily downloadable (no disks), water resistant, and if it has an easy way to edit that would be a plus. Last one’s not priority though.
Between Christmas and now my and son’s bdays there hasn’t been extra for the camera yet. I’ll ask for one for my bday, but he has a thing that I can’t get family presents as my present. Even though I’m the one that really, really wants it!

I love it when it all comes together.
As an aside, I also love it that your daughter is wrestling. Huge thumbs up.
It is so AWESOME! I wish we’d had girls teams when I was in school. I loved wrestling in PE. I love watching wrestling and am so happy she’s found something she really enjoys. I’ll have to post about the tournament lol

Yup. That sums it up perfectly!
