Kelly contacted me for some places for more support. Her husband starts work today! YEAH, CONGRATS! What an exciting and scary time. The adjustment is the hard part. But Kelly understands that this is a whole family change and just by asking for places for support I know she’ll be moving in the right direction.
There is firewives.comforums for wives and girlfriends if you’re looking for that kind of chatting.
Then blogs I suggest are:
Stop, Drop and Blog is a must stop for further advice on how another couple are making this craziness work. She has younger kids so she has a different perspective. I didn’t start my blog until my kids were a little older so unless I’m asked specific questions I tend to forget how I did deal with certain things. She and I tend to have a similar outlook on things and I believe she may have been one of the first fire wife blogs I found to follow. Her pictures are wonderful and she’s back to work as well. I’m sure you can ask her questions about dealing with it all and she will write back.
Hydrant Girl has a unique perspective as she’s married to a firefighter and we’ve followed as she’s become fire/medic herself. Well she was fire already, but she just did a ton of training to become medic. Traveling a ton, training to become a medic. She’s been rocking it and still updating her blog as well. Not an easy task.
Fire Wife Katie is another blogger I like to follow. She too has younger kids so I know you will get some great ideas from her. Not to mention she’s one talented “crafter”. I wish she lived closer, I’d just hire her to come in and decorate! I get much more than firelife commiseration from her blog. I get inspiration to actually do those many crafts I have lined up in my craft room.
A Firefighter’s Wife has all ages of children. They have been together for a while and she brings her faith to her blog as well. If you aren’t into religion, please don’t think you won’t get anything from her blog. I’m not religious and I love visiting her blog and can really appreciate how much their faith plays a part in their lives. She’s not preachy. It’s just the way they live their life and it’s working wonderfully for them. She homeschools, is crafty and she’s surrounded herself with really wonderful people locally that help. That is such a key.
Wow, I know a lot about some of you don’t I? Is this creepy? lmbo
Keep me updated Kelly and please feel free to contact me with any questions. I don’t mind keeping questions anonymous as well. That goes for everyone else as well. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you’d like to throw out to fire wives. You’ll usually get a few different perspectives to mull over.

GREAT post – was so much easier once I realized I was not the only one going through this crazy transition!! Thanks Val!
Very welcome Trina, yes I always like to know I’m not alone in my craziness
Good post! And thanks for the plug
Your welcome for the plug, thanks for blogging.
Firemom, I have to remind hubby to let me know when we get new guys. Some of the wives and I have talked about having some new wives event or at least a coffee chat to get to know them and try to help them transition a little. Give them some of our phone numbers at least. The guys don’t think of it of course. So thanks for that reminder.

Yes, you’re kind of stalkery. Just kidding!
I kind of want to tell the New Guy’s wife that there are blogs out there for her to read, but I have yet to meet her. We haven’t happened into the station at the same time yet and our schedules haven’t allowed for us to invite them over either. They’re young, so I know she’s probably overwhelmed with it all! Hopefully she finds the blogs soon!
Congrats to Kelly and her husband! And thanks for the mention, Val.
I’m honored to be on a list next to these wonderful, inspiring women!
Thanks for keeping your blog regularly updated and interesting! You have a babysitter (plus teens) in Washington if you ever want a vacation lol
Firefighters look so valiant and dashing in their uniforms and when they drive the vans and reach the site where the fire has broken out, we feel confident that lives will be saved and the fire will be
extinguished in no time. But for doing this, firefighter training is necessary. These brave men risk their own lives to save the lives of people who have been caught up in dangerous fires.
