Is money a fighting word in your marriage?
Since we all know that sometimes finances can be a huge issue, we are so excited to announce we are offering a fire family Financial Peace group led by certified instructors and available to our members at a discounted price!
Here are some amazing testimonials regarding what the Financial Peace program can do for you (from Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University website)
My husband and I have a household income of $30,000 a year. We were at rock bottom when we found Dave Ramsey in January of 2012. All of our credit cards were maxed out and we had a few dollars to our name. Then we found out we were expecting our first baby. Seven months later, we have paid off over $13,000 in debt and have $1,400 in the bank – And couldn’t be more ready for our little girl! We are so grateful Dave teaches the baby steps! Last month alone, we put $300 into fixing his car, then two weeks later, turned around and drop $600 on mine! Our $1,000 emergency fund is now fully refunded and we paid July’s bills BEFORE July even started. If it weren’t for FPU and Dave, we would be in a world of hurt. FPU and The Total Money Makeover has given us so much motivation. Not to mention the opportunity to meet some really great people. Our lives have changed so much in the past few months and we could not be happier! Amanda, Age 22 Brett, Age 24
Four sons, in-law apartment, living 30 miles north of Boston,MA and with high housing costs in this area make it difficult to save let alone pay off around $50,000 in debt. This type of pressure cooker was getting to my husband ,Ben and we decided to go to FPU at a Methodist church 20 min. away for the 13 week commitment. Now, 2&1/2 years later we are thrilled to say we payed everything off. Have had money in emergency accounts several times to help with car repairs, long distance funeral, and our pug’s surgery. We were also able to repair an area of our home after ice dam damage from 2010-2011 bad New England winter! Now we are working on step 3 and saving up to 3-6 months salary. We celebrated our 20th anniversary in May, with a cruise to Bermuda, which was a very big surprise that came at the tail end of working hard with the budget and my Mom’s passing away. The boys ages are 17, 15, 13, and 10 so our grocery bill is the hardest thing to control. We will take a summer vacation to Maine to relax as a family before college rolls around. We are so thankful for FPU! I have passed out many cards with the steps to friends and strangers. I have friends without children that say:”How do you do it?” my response is “God’s grace, discipline, and Dave Ramsey!”
A couple of years ago my husband took a promotion in his company which meant a pay decrease for us as he went from sales to management. We knew we’d have enough to take care of our family, but we weren’t sure how we’d be able to pay down our debt and continue to save for the future. The first few months were rough and we ended up dipping into our savings while trying to figure out how to make the adjustment to the new income. A friend of mine from out of state came to visit and told me she taught the Dave Ramsey course. She sat down with me and in an hour or two gave me several tips and suggestions as we went over a couple of the spread sheets. The next week our church started advertising the FPU course so we signed up. By learning the seemingly basic but crucial guidelines, tips and advice Dave taught, we were able to not only come up with a manageable monthly budget, but we also paid off both of our cars (which was about $40k worth of debt!) Plus we have an emergency fund and we are now up to 4 months worth of living expenses in our savings account. All of this within a year of taking the course!
The class will be led by a Dave Ramsey Certified instructor who specializes in military and first responders. Each couple will get online videos and a workbook and a meeting a week for 12 weeks. Meetings will be online and we encourage participants to join the meetings even if their spouse is unavailable at the time. Meetings will be recorded and can be viewed again later or shared with your spouse when they are available. This is a 12 week program. Each week you will watch a video in advance of the session (Videos will be available online so you can watch them at your convenience.) and work through homework in the workbook. Meetings will be online on Thursdays at 9:30pm EST starting February 6th. The fee is $50 per Fire Wife or couple.
