What better name than Cowskin?  Cowskin Fire Department is in Grove, Oklahoma.  Population estimated at 2,500.  The Fire Department runs 300+ Fire & EMS calls per year.  They are a 100% volunteer department and last year they fought one of the biggest commercial fires in Northeast Oklahoma in over 25 years.

Frankie’s Marine suffered a huge loss last year when it was destroyed by fire.  The 20,000 sqft building was a total loss. For nearly 12 hours, 15 agencies including nine area fire departments battled the fire fueled by fiberglass, oil and  gas preventing it from spreading and damaging any of the surrounding businesses.

Mandy Campbell, the Vice Present of the Auxiliary nominated the department and shared this:

When my husband joined Cowskin Fire I had no idea that not only would we be gaining a family but also new traditions and life long friends. Cowskin Fire families spend every holiday together eating, laughing and celebrating. We have the huge Easter Egg hunt for the children, the big 4th of July celebration and of course when Fall comes around we celebrate Thanksgiving with a huge feast and Christmas with an even bigger one with lots of gifts for everyone and we also adopt several needy children in our area and give them a Christmas to remember! In October we all come together and run a haunted house to help us raise funds for the Christmas for Kids program. We spend our nights around camp fires, taking people through the haunted house and through the haunted trail ride. That last night is always bittersweet. We are there for each other in the loss of loved ones, the birth of new ones and everything in between. There is something pretty magical about a volunteer fire department, when you have 27 men and woman who proudly serve your community in the falling snow, tornado season, the hottest summers in Oklahoma and every crazy season between it all make since why we are here. To serve our community, be there for our neighbors and of course create lifetime memories.”

Just a small town girl married to a firefighter since 2008, but she's so much more than a Fire Wife. She's been a member of the FirefighterWife family since 2012 and knows marriage takes a lot of work, even when it's in the best seasons.
