Marriage Gratitude 2: Communication

by | Everyday, Firefighter Marriage

Day 2.

I am grateful that despite my weakness in communicating that… I need help, my husband loves me anyway.

I receive so much grace when I am being that crazy snappy lady who should just set pride to the side and ask for help in a calm manner.  Too often instead of plainly asking for help, I passively hint thinking it’s clear enough.  My weakness is expecting him to read my signals instead of my words..  I am practicing extending as much grace to him.

Do you know your communication weakness?

Beyond being grateful for being loved despite that weakness, we encourage you to search for ways to communicate in way more easily understood by your spouse.

What can you do to practice more clear communication when you need something?

None of us love being told we have a weakness, but the truth is we all do.  Every last one of us lacks in some areas of life.  If communications is your weakness, open a conversation with your spouse about how they receive your current communication style and what may help them understand you better or how you can better communicate your needs with them.  Just don’t take it personally – communication styles vary and maybe a little tweak can really make big improvements.

This is a great conversation for couples, open up that line today!
