A few days ago we talked about date nights. We really are hearing far too often that couples aren’t taking out time for themselves.
YOU’VE GOT TO MAKE TIME FOR YOUR MARRIAGES.
Even a few short moments can make a huge impact. Even if you are broke. Even if you have kids and no sitter. Even if you have a baby or toddler sleeping in your room. Even if your schedule is all crazy. We’ve heard all the reasons but you have got to find a compromise somewhere to fit in quality couple time, even if it’s just 15 minutes a week.
Dating, even after marriage, is super important. Courtship shouldn’t end just because you say vows. The usually unspoken part in those vows is that you grow TOGETHER, as one, through life, and dating is a part of that. Dating is also just another word for reconnecting, bonding, spending time TOGETHER.
Especially in lines of work like the Fire Service where spouses spend on average a third of their time or even more apart from each other. This time alone, together, allows you to reconnect and grow closer. Have a few moments of uninterrupted adult conversation. This doesn’t have to mean a lot of time or money. People get too hung up on time and money, those things are irrelevant. Really they are. If you need ideas you can check out these resources… you’ll find something for almost everyone!
Psssst. Hey….Firefighters (And any firewives this may pertain to),
don’t blow off dates because of the word date, because you don’t have “money” or “time”. For the sake of me wanting your marriage to thrive, I say… That’s bull! MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE A PRIORITY… we’re not talking once a week, although that’s awesome. Once every 6 weeks would make a big difference to your spouse. Cuddling up on the couch and watching a movie is considered a date. Having a dinner alone. This can look however you want it to look, talk about it together and decide what your reconnection time looks like and make it happen! 😉
