Being the wife of a Firefighter is so rewarding but such hard work sometimes.  Gather with other fire wives who totally “get” your life.

If you are part of our Private Wives Group, you can meet in person all those wonderful fire wife friends you’ve met online. And what better place than HOTlanta? (Ok, I know that’s a worn out phrase for all of you in Atlanta but its so appropriate for us fire wives.)

Mark will speak to us about warning signs of PTSD and other more serious topics so we can help our firefighters before they turn into life changing addictions.   From his website:

“Firefighter substance abuse and alcoholism is a major problem in the fire service, with around 33% of the fire service suffering from some form of PTSD from traumatic events they witness on a daily basis. Approximately 52% of PTSD sufferers will go to substance abuse, leaving around 18% of all firefighters with an addiction of some sort.”

Thursday Evening Reception

6:30 – 8:30 PM

Meet all the fire wives (and husbands who may be tagging along) and visit with the Pink Heals Fire Truck from Savannah.
Enjoy some appetizers and drinks while we meet and greet and share some surprises with each other.  Watch for details via email in late June.

Friday

8:30 AM – 3 PM

  • Introduction by Lori Mercer and some of our FirefighterWife.com Advisors
  • Marla Taviano, Author and Speaker, Internet Friendships and Intimacy in Marriage
  • Tara and Wendy from the Dating Divas lead us through a session on “How to Date Your Husband” especially when they are away so much like our men.  We’ll do a hands on take away and you will receive a brand new firefighter themed date night kit!
  • Mark Lamplugh, 1stResponderTreatment.com will share his personal story of addiction recovery and the PTSD implications and talk to us wives about the warning signs and symptoms
  • Cindy Ell, Firefighter Cancer Foundation brings awareness to the extra risk of cancer in our firefighters and what we can do
  • We’ll hear from a small panel for FirefighterWife.com advisors and fire wife bloggers

3 pm – 5 pm We’ll have a break in the late afternoon to just hang by the pool (or the nearby mall) and socialize.

6:30 – 11:00 We’ll wrap up the event with a nice dinner in the evening with special awards and some guest speakers including Hal Runkel, author of ScreamFree Marriage. (Husbands are invited for the dinner. What a good excuse to see him dressed all snazzy!)
