  • Nurture our Fire Family community with encouragement, support and friendship
  • To Build Up our Fire Families in mind, body and spirit to be wise, strong and enduring
  • To bring an even deeper sense of community to the entire Fire Family

Our goal is to bring the best resources to the fire service resulting in LESS DIVORCE and STRONGER FAMILIES.

Our Mission

Firefighting is a noble profession.  And also one that takes an emotional toll sometimes at the expense of marriages and family life.  Our Mission is to honor, strengthen, support and encourage fire service marriages and families.

Who We Serve

Whether you are a firefighter or a significant other, male or female, struggling or just wanting to be a part of a good community that is positive, uplifting and supportive of your choices to honor your marriage and family, this is for you.

Our Services

With professionalism, integrity, top quality programs and a positive environment, we offer:

For the Firefighters

Here you will find resources to help you make that transition from “on call” to “at home”.  Tools that will strengthen your marriage and family and help you to understand their perspective and just how easy it may be to ignite those marriage sparks and encourage your spouse.

You will find other firefighters like yourself who value and honor marriage and family and have found ways to be both the best firefighters as well as the best spouse / parent possible.

For the Spouse of a Firefighter

This group of ladies is the sisterhood you have been looking for.

Ever try to explain to someone why you can’t commit to an every 2nd Tuesday schedule due to your husband’s schedule?   Uh huh.  Unless you’re married to the guy working that schedule, you just don’t get it.

Has a duty day gone by that the phone rings and you don’t have a premonition that it might be the chief with tragic news?  (well, maybe not everyday but if you don’t do this I might have to call you a liar and I don’t want to do that.  I want to be your friend.)

Ever been snubbed by a neighborhood mom or long time friend because they don’t understand what you have to deal with in your life?   You won’t find that here.  Fire Wives have a way of speaking their mind with love.  This is a non-judgmental, drama-free community.  Seriously.  I know that’s hard to believe for a group of women this big but it is the absolute truth.  Try it for yourself by joining our private wives group.

Just some of the topics that are discussed include….

  • crazy schedules
  • how to perform rescues in our own house while our men are rescuing others
  • fear and courage
  • smelly fire gear
  • how tough guys do have big hearts
  • example after example showing how the fire service is a family that sticks together
We offer….
  • Helpful resources for the fire family
  • A network of fire wife blogs
  • A private group where you can talk openly and securely in a drama-free non-judgemental environment (Register here)
  • Themes and activities each month we do as a group for motivation (fitness, marriage builders, home improvement, parenting, financial topics, book clubs)
  • And……..local meet ups so you can connect in person with fire wives in your local area

Meet the “WifeOnFire” Behind This Community

I am Lori Mercer AKA “WifeOnFire” and founder of this community.   My husband Dan is the firefighter who qualifies me for this noble title and who so courageously has chosen to lead with Husband and Dad as his most important titles, even before that already amazing title of Firefighter.  (He’s also a pretty awesome speaker and writer here too.)

Together we give our all at parenting our 4 kids (as of Feb 2015 ages 15, 12, 10 and 7).   When we were newlyweds and the kids were toddlers and pre-schoolers and I was seemingly always pregnant or nursing non-stop, we were a bit of a trainwreck.  And I partially blamed the fire service.  By the grace of God we survived!  And we’re here to share our story and make a safe haven of encouragement for other fire families.

How do I do all of this?  Well, I am a business minded, productivity driven, techno-geek.  20 years leading international product development, marketing and technology programs taught me much but my creative energy never ceased.  I’ve always supported non-profits and small businesses in their strategy, design and web development needs (Lori Mercer CTO) and when I poured myself into the mission of serving fire wives, this is what happened.  An amazing community of people who said “me too”.  Let’s live out the brotherhood / sisterhood and end some of these sad trends in the fire service that are tearing apart our families.

I know with all my heart that I am fulfilling a life purpose by providing the fire wife community with this platform and your messages and comments and virtual hugs are what keep me going everyday to make this a better place.

Everything we do for FireFamily.Life and FirefighterWife.com is for one mission:  To serve fire families worldwide and strengthen our marriages.
